March had noticed the all too familiar darkening of the maze, and his nerves were at wits end. But March had also become very skilled at hiding his true emotions, most of the time. The darkness made him uneasy, as it always did when he wandered through this maze. That was probably why he was lost so often, he avoided the darker part of the maze, even though that was usually the way out. But for now, he would put up a brave front.
He had noticed her drawing closer to him, but knew better to try anything funny, as she had put it before. She repeated his words and he smiled, "Truer words have never been spoken in Wonderland." he said quietly. She went on, but when she drew closer still, he instinctively reached out to grab a hold of her. Gently brushing her back, he remembered his promise and then retreated, looking away. "Sorry..." he muttered, looking sullen.
This was such an unamusing plaything, this was. Maybe she would loosen up later when she had some tea and listened to some music. They were drawing close to center of the maze now, and more and more bread-and-butterflies floated around them, looking like eerie shadows in the dim light.

Kirsten leaned into him as his hand brushed her back, feeling slightly comforted. When he pulled away, she quickly glanced up at his face, catching the sullen look. With a sigh, she reached out to place a hand on his arm, saying, "Look I'm sorry for freaking out earlier. You're just the second person I've met, so I don't know what to believe. My brain is kinda fried." A shaky smile was cast his way, and her hand wasn't removed from her arm.
A sudden noise had her latching onto the man, her arms around his waist, eyes wide. It sounded a few more times, but it took her a moment to realize it was simply the sound of a dog barking. With an embarressed laugh, she pulled away gently, cheeks burning. "Sorry," came the nearly whispered apology. The barking came again. "That's probably Duke," She told him, still walking close.

Glancing at her hand on his arm, then to the shaky smile, he smiled widely, nodding in agreement. Well maybe she would loosen up faster than expected. That would make his life a lot easier, now wouldn't it.
He too jumped at the unexpected noise, a small yipping noise escaping from the back of his throat. He hoped she hadn't noticed it, for she had seemed rather scared herself, throwing her arms around his waist. Again, trying to put up a brave front so that she would stay in his company, he nodded to what she said, "Of course, that would make sense, yes." quickly, glancing in the direction the noise and come from. "I suppose he must be close, since that noise was rather--uhm, loud-- so to speak." he said with a nervous grin.
